Silas Vane
Race: Human Silas Vane is the rugged, pragmatically-minded leader of the timber village of Grimhaven. Known as "The Iron Root," he is described as a man who looks as though he was literally carved from the ancient trees he harvests. His skin is toughened like leather and his hands bear the scars of decades of hard woodcraft. Role & Personality: As the Warden of the Wood, Silas serves as the primary authority in Grimhaven. He is a realist who views the oppressive Doctrine of the Pure Flame as a necessary burden. He publicly enforces the King's taxes and quotas to protect his people from the brutal "Purification Rites" that have destroyed other settlements, though he is known to secretly "lose" ledger pages to ensure his village has enough supplies to survive the winter. Key Alliances & Conflicts: He is the cousin of Mauren Vane, the master of the local Resin-Boiler’s Den. Silas frequently clashes with the fanatical Ember Warden Vaneas Thorne, as Silas prioritizes the economic and physical safety of his woodcutters over the Inquisition's spiritual zeal. The Overlook: He governs from the Warden's Overlook, a central mansion in the village square that houses the Great Scale used to weigh the kingdom's timber and resin exports. |
